SNAP STATEMENT on the Seattle Archdiocese's $8M settlement with victim/survivors of Father James McGreal
The announcement today of the Archdiocese of Seattle reaching a settlement
with most of the victims of Father McGreal’s abuse is a positive step in
addressing all the victims of abuse by clergy in the Seattle Archdiocese.
We would like to commend the 16 known victims of McGreal for their courage and
persistence in demanding justice. With this settlement comes the
acknowledgement of the abuse that all victims seek and we wish them well.
We would offer this as a sign to the other victims in Seattle who have come
forward and hope they will find the strength to endure and recognize that they
too, will find justice.
And finally we offer encouragement to those victims who have yet to come
forward. We hope they realize that there is hope and healing in bringing
their secret out in the open.
